More - Cheese Puffs, the Borg, and Salt

Part 2 – What Idols/excuses in your life do you need to CUT loose???

I can’t come to church with you – my habits are just not what they need to be. I don’t think God would want me there right now.

I am not the type of person that goes to church. Once people found out who I was and what I have done, well let’s just say, I wouldn’t be welcomed.

I have a lot of work to do on myself before I am ready to come to church. Thanks for the invite though.

Ever heard any of these? Ever made any of these? We think (or have thought) that we have to be perfect or in a better place than where we are right now for God to love us and to work through us. WRONG!

We cannot clean up our act on our own!!! Only God can truly clean us up.

What thoughts, habits, or activities are making you feel dirty or not clean enough to enter God’s presence? Right now…take time to thank God that he loves you just the way you are…and that he loves you too much to let you stay there.

Use a pencil for the next part.

Write down several thoughts, excuses, actions, habits, behaviors, etc. that you feel God would not approve of or that are keeping you where you are:

Now take the eraser and erase them…one at a time. Each time thanking him for cleaning you with Jesus.

Romans 8:26-30:

26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don't even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory. 31 What can we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

Prayer time – God, help me! I don’t know what to pray for. Thank you Holy Spirit for taking my wordless sighs, my groanings, my aches and shaping them into the perfect prayer. Help me get out of this rut.
